Creepin'

The lockdown restrictions have brought about many creative ways to not really follow them while keeping in the spirit of staying distanced. Often, they tend towards the technical-nature of the rule, and follow some version of "there's nothing in the rules that a dog can't play basketball". For example, I saw a group of cyclists this weekend in a set of paired cyclists. Technically, this probably followed the rule of exercising with only one other person, although it was obvious they were a group separated by a few bike lengths to each pair, but for outdoor activity, it probably didn't matter.

The most enjoyable way of breaking the rules while possibly technically not breaking them that I have seen so far is parents creeping in the trees to watch sports practices of their kids. Technically, they are not spectators of the practice; they are merely hanging out in the trees, silently, staring ahead. What is wrong about that. It just so happens that there is a field of athletes directly in their line of sight. Surely standing in the woods is not illegal, at least not yet. What a joy to ride past these (probably cold and wet) parents who, in normal times, would likely end up having police called or at least get chased off by other concerned parents.

Who knows, maybe some parents will realize their kid is better when they don't realize that they are being watched, and this will be a trend for all time.
