Throwing Bowls

image of my initial attempts at throwing bowls

I started a ceramics class today, where we are going to learn how to use the wheel. I have very little experience with art or a wheel, so it is a steep learning curve. My first attempt was a complete disaster as I went too fast and ripped it apart. My second attempt is the bowl pictured in the back in the image above. It appears to be ok, and I should be proud of it by the end. My third attempt was nearly a disaster, but I kept it together. I decided to keep it, as it has a little more character than it would if it had been perfect.

I have never really been in a studio before, so it was nice to just zone out and create for a few hours. I was quite frustrated and overwhelmed when I started the class, but I was also immediately put at ease as soon as the instruction began. It was a really fun class, and I am looking forward to continue to build bowls.
